Richard Patterson – Career Changer
What inspired you to become a teacher?
I had a fantastic primary education and those teachers made me want to help children have the same positive start in live that I had received.
What made you change career and decide to become a teacher?
I worked in banking and although a great career path, it was ultimately unsatisfying. I decided to take the leap and pursue my dream of becoming a teacher.
Why did you choose High Force Education SCITT?
I attended a teacher training ‘jobs fair’ when I was investigating my career change options, and High Force were there, along with many other training providers of all kinds. I had never heard of them, but their welcoming approach impressed me and made them stand out above some of the other organisations I spoke to that day. I subsequently researched more about High Force, and having seen the high regard that the SCITT was held in, and the results that they helped students achieve, I decided they were my top choice for application.
What were the highlights of your training year?
There were many highlights, however developing to be an outstanding teacher by the end of the year was a proud moment for me.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about a career in teaching?
It is exceptionally hard work and full of challenge. But, despite it being a cliche, it really is an amazingly rewarding job. I find working with children opens your eyes to different approaches and teaches you something about yourself.
