Natalie Jackson-Cooper – Primary Trainee
What inspired you to become a teacher?
There wasn’t one trigger that led me to teaching, but a culmination of different experience through my life, education and previous employment. I have always loved working with children in different settings and ultimately teaching excited me and made me feel inspired to make a difference to young people.
Why did you choose High Force Education SCITT?
It just felt right! From the open evening, to the interview at Green Lane and meeting Gemma, Gillian and my fellow trainees. I’ve never had a doubt that this was the right course for me. I had the best and most rewarding year.
What were the highlights of your training year?
Making a difference to the educational and emotional lives of children across all placement. I was given lots of different opportunities to help develop as a teacher and taking on the role of the class teacher really boosted my confidence. Also meeting an eclectic group of people and making friends for life. This year has completely changed my life. It has given me a new direction in a career I throughly enjoy. It has shown me that you can achieve anything!
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about a career in teaching?
Talk to lots of people and gain experience in schools. Keep an open mind and don’t be afraid to push yourself out of your comfort zone. Show your personality – nobody expects you to be a robot! Share your passion for teaching with the children.
